Beaches
Life's a beach and in St. Augustine you've got 27 miles
of beach to enjoy. You'll find an endless list of activities from wave
riding to sun-worshipping. Fortunately the list includes large oceanfront
state parks, Anastasia State Park and Guana State Park,
two of the most beautiful in the country. ENJOY!
From March 1 to Oct. 1, the county requires anyone driving on its beaches to first purchase a pass. No pass is
required the rest of the year, although a switch to year-round passes has been discussed. Daily passes are priced $5, while season passes are sold for $20 before the season and $30 once it starts.
The fees help offset the costs of maintaining the beaches.
After March 1, passes are only sold at the 12 county-run beach access ramps. Signs along State Road A1A mark the way to the ramps.
During the sea turtle nesting period from May 15 to Oct. 15, driving on the beaches is banned between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Barricades block access to the beach during those hours. Also, the county has designated areas extending 15 feet seaward of the toe of a dune or line of vegetation as conservation zones where parking and driving are prohibited.
Sand dunes are vital to protect against beach erosion, which is why picking sea oats is illegal. The sea oats are what forms the sand dunes and without them, the protection is gone.

site sponsored by the State of Florida. The site has all the fishing regulations, fishing reports, online license
purchases, boat ramp locator, news, events and links to freshwater and saltwater fishing sites.
